University of Warwick

Posted by : Shaikh Hussain | | Published in

Overview:
The establishment of the University of Warwick was given approval by the government in 1961 and received its Royal Charter of Incorporation in 1965. It is situated on a large 700 acre campus which straddles the boundary between the City of Coventry and the County of Warwickshire. The idea for a university in Coventry was mooted shortly after the conclusion of the Second World War but it was a bold and imaginative partnership of the City and the County which brought the University into being on a 400 acre site jointly granted by the two authorities. Since then, the University has incorporated the former Coventry College of Education in 1978 and has extended its land holdings by the purchase of adjoining farm land.

The University is located in the heart of England, adjacent to the city of Coventry - 3 miles (5 kilometres) from the city centre - and on the border with Warwickshire. The University of Warwick is justifiably proud of the environment within which it is set - this is a great place to live, work, research and study.

The University of Warwick campus was recently voted the best campus in the UK. It’s a lively,
cosmopolitan place with its own shops, banks, bars and restaurants - an exciting place to live and work with everything you could need close at hand.

There is a great sense of community at Warwick: The campus is home to students and staff from over 120 different countries and from all backgrounds, and is a great resource for the local community with excellent facilities such as Warwick Arts Centre and the University Sports Centre.

Vision 2015 & Strategy:
Warwick is one of the UK’s leading universities, with an acknowledged reputation for excellence in research and teaching, for innovation, and for links with business and industry. By 2015 Warwick will be in the top 50 world Universities. Find out more about the University's vision for 2015.

The University of Oxford

Welcome to the University of Oxford. People from all walks of life and all parts of the world have been visiting us for nine centuries and we are delighted that via this website you are joining that long tradition. Oxford was the first University in the English-speaking world. Our aim is to remain at the forefront of centres of learning, teaching and research.

Oxford’s remarkable global appeal continues to grow. Students from more than a hundred and forty countries and territories make up a student population of over twenty thousand. Over a third comes from outside the United Kingdom.
But it is not just longevity and global reach that mark Oxford out and give the University its special character. There is also our distinctive college and tutorial system which underpins a culture of close academic supervision and careful personal support for our outstanding students. Our colleges and halls of which there are more than forty also help to foster the intense interdisciplinary approach that inspires much of the outstanding research achievement of the University and makes Oxford a leader in so many fields. It is an approach especially suited to confronting many of the hugely complex challenges that face us all. That is why we believe that the greater we can make Oxford, the greater its contribution to the well-being of the world you and I share.
The Rt Hon Lord Patten of Barnes, CH
